Of all the programs that debuted across Latin America in August, Canta, Luan on Multishow in Brazil stirred up the most social-media buzz, according to The WIT.

The variety entertainment show, broadcast live, sees singer Luan Santana invite artists to perform some of his hits. There were around 199,000 comments on Facebook and Twitter about the debut broadcast.

Number two on the list of the most-buzzed-about new programs in LatAm is Por el mundo, which launched on Telefe in Argentina. The new version of the factual travelogue that aired on the channel between 2003 and 2007 sees the popular host Marley travel around the world with the biggest Argentine stars. Around 29,000 tweets went out about the initial episode.

MTV SwipeDate on MTV Latinoamérica in Mexico saw some 8,800 tweets. Each episode of the dating show features a singleton (Swiper) traveling from his/her country (in Latin America, including Brazil) to Miami, where they will choose between four contenders (Matches) who will try to be picked without revealing their appearance. At the end of a variety of blind personality tests, only one of the pretenders gains the right to reveal who they are and meet the Swiper during a romantic date.

There were approximately 6,800 tweets about Un gallo para Esculapio‘s launch on TNT Latin America in Argentina. The drama series takes place in illicit circles such as cockfighting and car racing and charts a man’s search for his brother.

Cuéntame como pasó debuted on Televisión Pública Argentina to around 4,800 social-media comments. The local adaptation of the Spanish series Cuéntame looks back at the country’s history from the late ’60s into the 21st century through the story of a middle-class family.

Hoy voy a cambiar on Mexico’s Las Estrellas generated some 4,700 tweets. The biographical drama series tells the fate of the popular singer Lupita d’Alessio (who narrates her own story), nicknamed La Leona Dormida, who touched the public with her golden voice but lived through conflicts and moments of deep sadness.

Around 1,900 tweets were sent about Guerreros on Canal 1 in Colombia. A local adaptation of the format Esto es Guerra, the game show features two teams of three contestants—an all-female team and an all-male team—in various physical challenges (obstacle and aquatic course, dance competition) and intellectual ones (algebra, general knowledge quiz).

MTV Brasil debuted Perrengue and the broadcast stirred up around 1,300 Facebook and Twitter comments. The comedy series is about three best friends who share a lot of things: they go to the same school, live in the same neighborhood, have a passion for skateboarding and a huge capacity for getting in trouble.

There were also some 1,300 tweets about Chacrinha, o Eterno Guerreiro, which debuted on Viva in Brazil. The variety show pays tribute to Chacrinha, the TV and radio host who marked the history of Brazilian television between 1960 and 1988.

About 800 comments on social media centered on the debut of Renta congelada on Las Estrellas in Mexico. The comedy features two sets of newlyweds who find themselves forced to live under the same roof after being framed in a real estate scam.
