Time Warner Cable & Univision Form Multi-Year Agreement

NEW YORK: Time Warner Cable and Univision Communications have announced a multi-year, multiplatform pact to deliver content to Time Warner Cable and Bright House Networks subscribers.

The pact comes ahead of the expiration of the companies existing agreement. The agreement covers Univision Deportes, Univision, tlNovelas and FOROtv. Time Warner Cable will also be among the first to carry the El Rey Network. Time Warner Cable's customers also gain access to content on digital platforms and VOOD, which includes additional TV Everywhere content.

The expanded partnership also includes renewed distribution rights for Univision’s flagship broadcast and cable networks Univision Network, UniMás, Galavisión, De Película, De Película Clásico, Bandamax, Ritmoson, Telehit and Distrito Comedia. In addition, Time Warner Cable and Univision’s Television Group have reached a first-of-its-kind local news partnership to better serve Hispanic audiences in Los Angeles, New York and other shared markets.

“We were delighted to be able to work out our early renewal and expand our business relationship with Univision,” said Melinda Witmer, the executive VP, chief video and content officer for Time Warner Cable. “Our comprehensive agreement expands the number of ways our Hispanic subscribers can enjoy their favorite entertainment, news, sports and telenovelas. We also look forward to the launch of El Rey; after talking with Robert and his creative team for more than a year, we’re convinced that this new network will provide our customers with a unique experience.”

“This agreement further demonstrates Time Warner Cable’s strong commitment to providing Hispanic audiences with the content they love most,” added Tonia O’Connor, the president of content distribution and corporate business development at Univision Communications Inc. “Hispanics represent a significant growth opportunity for distributors and our goal in this highly competitive environment is to build long-term partnerships, that tap into the power of our brand, deliver top quality programming and leverage our exhaustive range of multiplatform offerings.”

“Time Warner Cable’s commitment to El Rey emboldens our ability to bring exciting, visceral and cinematic stories to young viewers across the U.S. We are thrilled to be riding with TWC in our mission to deliver entertainment that captures the inclusive spirit of our audiences,” said Robert Rodriguez, the chairman of El Rey Network.
