Telemundo Pacts with Fernando Colunga

Telemundo has inked a deal with Fernando Colunga for the Mexican actor to star in various original productions, beginning with the new super-series Malverde: The Patron Saint (Malverde: El Santo Patrón).

Slated to premiere next year, Malverde: El Santo Patrón is an original Telemundo Global Studios production. Inspired by a true story, the action-packed series, which will begin production this year, tells the story of a boy born in Sinaloa, Mexico in 1870, who will ultimately become a protector of the people and almost a religious icon.

Born in Mexico, Colunga is an award-winning television, film and theater actor, best known for his leading roles in numerous telenovelas. Throughout his career, he has starred in Pasión y Poder, Porqué el Amor Manda, Alborada, La Usurpadora and Esmeralda y María la del Barrio, several of which have aired around the globe. Colunga has also starred in movies such as Ladrones and Ladrón que Roba a Ladrón, as well as various plays, including Trampa de Muerte, Un Engaño no Hace Daño and Obscuro Total.

“I am very grateful to Telemundo for believing in my career as an actor and professional,” said Colunga. “This new series presents a great challenge for me, and I look forward to presenting audiences a new genre, never before seen on Spanish-language television.”

“It is an honor to welcome Fernando to the Telemundo family and to have him star in these new projects,” added Marcos Santana, president of Telemundo Global Studios. “We continue to set new standards by producing innovative programming and hiring the best talent. We are sure that our audiences will love seeing an actor as talented as Fernando on our screen for the first time.”
