Wolf Hall & Better Call Saul Among Golden Nymph Award Winners

MONTE CARLO: BBC’s Wolf Hall and Sony Pictures Television’s Better Call Saul were among the international series to score Golden Nymph Awards at the 56th Monte-Carlo Television Festival.

Mark Rylance picked up a statue for outstanding actor in a long fiction program as the lead in Wolf Hall. In that category, Germany’s Tannback: Line of Separation won for best long fiction program, while Odile Vuillemin was named outstanding actress for her role in France’s Woman Under Influence.

On the drama side, the U.K.’s River won for best show, with Marcia Gay Harden of the U.S. series Code Black named outstanding actress and Jonas Nay of Germany’s Deutschland 83 named outstanding actor.

Better Call Saul was named the best comedy TV series, with Bob Odenkirk awarded outstanding actor in a comedy for his titular role in that show. Meanwhile, Sharon Horgan won outstanding actress in a comedy for the U.K.’s Catastrophe.

In the factual space, Norway’s Drone won for best news documentary and Sweden’s Those Who Said No won for best current affairs documentary. France’s Crossing the Aegean Sea was named best TV news item while CNN’s Baltimore Unrest won for best 24-hour news program.

The International TV Audience Awards were handed out to the U.S. series CSI: Crime Scene Investigation for best drama and The Big Bang Theory for best comedy. Also from the U.S., The Bold and the Beautiful won for best telenovela/soap opera.

Several special prizes were also awarded. The Prince Rainier III Special Prize went to the German-Canadian co-production Gambling on Extinction, with Italy’s The Long March winning the AMADE Prize and the International Committee of the Red Cross Prize. The U.K.’s The Cyberbully won the Signis Prize and Austria’s Little Big Voice was handed the Monaco Red Cross Prize. The winner of the URTI Prize – Grand Prix for Author’s Documentaries was Sonita, a German/Swiss/Iranian production.
