NEW YORK: Of all the new programs that were launched in Latin America last month, SuperMax on Brazil’s TV Globo generated the most buzz on social media, according to The WIT.

The drama series set in a prison watches as a television channel decides to produce a reality series in a decommissioned maximum-security prison, in which twelve participants are confined. To raise tensions, production stops communicating with candidates. The debut garnered around 138,000 tweets.

Number two on the list of the most-buzzed-about new programs also hails from TV Globo: Nada será como antes. The period drama series looks at the debut of TV in Brazil in the 1950s. Around 20,000 comments were made about the program’s launch.

Modo Termómetro, which premiered in Chile on Chilevision, is a talk show about current affairs, hosted by the channel’s anchorman Iván Núñez. It features discussions on current topics between guests rotating in each episode, with significant participation from the audience through social networks. Around 8,800 comments went out on Twitter and Facebook surrounding the premiere.

Also from Chile, La Vega on TVN garnered around 8,300 tweets with its premiere. The reality soap follows young drop-outs, who are unemployed and uneducated, as they are sent for one week to work in the largest market of Santiago every day at four o’clock in the morning. At the end of the experiment, he/she will have to make a decision with the money earned: keep the money or give it to someone who really needs it.

The debut of Loco por vos on Telefe in Argentina garnered around 5,300 tweets. It is the local adaptation of the format Mad About You, which aired in the U.S. on NBC.

The Suso’s Show made its debut on Caracol in Colombia and saw some 4,900 social-media comments. The new version of the tongue-in-cheek talk show has each episode start with a monologue by the host “Suso” on the day’s topic, linked to his own experience and the situations Colombians have to deal with.

Telefe’s debut of Pesadilla en la cocina generated around 4,600 tweets. This local adaptation of the Kitchen Nightmares format sees chef Christophe Krywonis fly to the rescue of ailing restaurants.

Are you the one? El match perfecto, which launched on MTV Latinoamérica in Argentina, is the local adaptation of the dating reality format Are You The One? It saw some 2,700 comments about its premiere on social media.

TVN’s Lleve de lo bueno is a cultural and culinary magazine show that embarks on Chile’s roads to discover the traditions and recipes of the country. The premiere stirred up around 2,200 tweets.

The debut of Top Chef Panamá on Canal 13 Telemetro, which is the local adaptation of the cooking contest, caps off the top ten list, with around 1,700 social-media comments.
