Globo Teams Up with Snapchat for Olympics Content

SÃO PAULO: Globo has partnered with mobile platform Snapchat to create content for the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Through the partnership, Snapchat will include the Games’ special content from Globo in its coverage of the action from the Olympic venues via its Live Stories product. These Live Stories will be a curated collection of photo and video Snaps submitted by app users at the events. They will also feature small excerpts from Globo’s broadcasts.

The partnership marks the first time that Globo will offer exclusive content of its sports coverage on a social-media platform. The initiative encompasses both Globo’s free-to-air channel and SporTV, the multichannel sports brand operated by Globosat.

“We are thrilled to establish this partnership with Snapchat,” said Erick Brêtas, the director of digital media at Globo. “And the moment couldn’t be more appropriate: a huge event in Rio de Janeiro is [a] guarantee of breathtaking images of the Games. The partnership reinforces the movement Globo has been making to get closer to its audience, wherever and however they feel like. We will be side by side with Brazilian Snapchatters, recording live everything that is going on in the Olympic Games.”

“We’re thrilled to be partnering with Globo to allow our community to experience the biggest global sporting event like they never have before,” said Ben Schwerin, the director of partnerships at Snapchat.
