The Handmaid’s Tale Scores Top Honor at TCA Awards

Hulu’s dystopian thriller The Handmaid’s Tale was named program of the year at the Television Critics Association’s (TCA) annual awards presentation.

The 33rd annual TCA Awards also saw The Handmaid’s Tale taking home the win for outstanding achievement in drama. NBC’s breakout hit This Is Us won for outstanding new program.

The FX series Atlanta scored the honor of outstanding achievement in comedy, while HBO’s Big Little Lies took the award for outstanding achievement in movies, miniseries and specials.

Outstanding achievement in youth programming went to ABC’s Speechless, and outstanding achievement in reality programming went to A&E’s Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath. ESPN’s O.J.: Made in America took the TCA Award for outstanding achievement in news and information.

For individual awards, Carrie Coon (The Leftovers, Fargo) won for drama and Donald Glover (Atlanta) for comedy. Ken Burns was honored with the Career Achievement Award. The Heritage Award went to the long-running NBC comedy Seinfeld.

“This was one of the most diverse seasons in recent memory, offering a wide range of programming that truly had a little something for everyone,” said TCA President Amber Dowling. “It also treated us to some incredible performances and eclectic plotlines that challenged us, moved us, and thrilled us, reinvigorating the television landscape with bold and innovative subjects that we had rarely seen before.”
