TV Latina Production Festival: Sonia Martínez & María Valenzuela

Sonia Martínez, the editorial director of series at Buendía Estudios, and María Valenzuela, the director of international and business development, discuss the international relevance of Spanish productions and the secret to their titles’ success.

Responsible for some of the most relevant and internationally praised Spanish fiction titles of the last decade, among which are La casa de papel, Gran Hotel, El embarcadero and Veneno, among many others, Martínez currently heads the editorial direction of Buendía Estudios, the independent production company that emerged from the union of Atresmedia and Movistar+.

Meanwhile, Buendía Estudios announced last November that Valenzuela would join the company as the senior VP of international strategy and business development, as well as spearheading international distribution and co-productions at Movistar+.

In this interview with TV Latina‘s Elizabeth Bowen-Tombari, the executives highlight the company’s origins, the global growth strategy for Buendía Estudios and competition from their peers in territories like Latin America and the U.S. Hispanic Market.
