New Report Forecasts Strong Gains for LatAm SVOD

A new study from Dataxis indicates that the number of SVOD subscribers in Latin America will double in the next five years, rising from 17.4 million this year to 33.5 million in 2022.

Netflix is expected to be the leading player with a 60-percent share. In terms of markets, meanwhile, SVOD subs were, as of last year, largely concentrated in Mexico (46.8 percent), Brazil (31 percent), Colombia (6.6 percent) and Argentina (6.5 percent). The study also reports that new competition emerged in Brazil, Mexico, Argentina and Colombia.

Platforms are looking to differentiate themselves by offering transactional models for customers to access premium titles with shorter windows and aligning with pay-TV operators to simplify the billing process.
