CANNES: The Globo highlight Precious Pearl, winner of the 2014 International Emmy Award for best telenovela, follows the love story between a working-class girl and a millionaire in Brazil during the 1930s and 1940s.

It also tells the story of Pearl, who was born out of their union and will be responsible for smoothing out the conflicts that get in the couple’s way. Globo’s highlights also include the novelas Empire and Helena’s Shadow. Written by Aguinaldo Silva, Empire chronicles a humble young man’s rise to become a power-hungry jewelry businessman. Helena’s Shadow is about a man who becomes involved with the daughter of an old flame. “[Our telenovelas] are unique productions, with impeccable footage and modern narratives,” says Raphael Corrêa Netto, Globo’s executive director of international business.
