Emilio Azcárraga Jean, the chairman of the board, president and CEO of Grupo Televisa, will receive the 2017 International Emmy Directorate Award.

He will accept the award at the International Emmy Gala on  Monday, November 20, in New York City.

Azcárraga Jean has been at the head of Televisa since April 1997. Under his leadership, the group has developed into a diversified and integrated media, telephone, cable and satellite pay-TV services company, in Mexico and across the world. Televisa distributes the content it produces through several broadcast channels in Mexico, 26 pay-TV brands in Mexico and internationally, and television networks, cable operators and OTT services in more than 50 countries.

“Emilio Azcárraga Jean is a strategic and visionary leader who has successfully and relentlessly navigated an increasingly competitive media landscape to grow his company’s businesses,” said Bruce L. Paisner, the president and CEO of the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. “This year in particular, the Academy is pleased to honor Emilio and to celebrate the major contributions of Mexico to the global television community.”

Azcárraga Jean said: “Television dissolved the borders between the U.S. and Mexico a long time ago. Technology has allowed us to connect, to share our values and to get to know each other better as friends, partners and neighbors. Our countries are more than public policies that come and go—history brings us together and geography unites us. This recognition is proof that if we continue working to grow together, we can develop a promising shared future. On behalf of Televisa and the Spanish-speaking world that we serve, I thank the Academy for this award.”
