MIAMI: BBC Worldwide is taking three of its flagship channels off the air in Latin America, as it plans to refocus on OTT distribution and licensing in the region.

BBC Entertainment, CBeebies and BBC Earth are being withdrawn from LatAm. The channels are set to go dark in April. BBC World News, which is managed by BBC Global News, won’t be affected by the changes.

An official spokesperson for the BBC commented: “This decision was based on a growing demand for our stellar programming in the market and will allow us to offer our premium content to even broader audiences in the region. We are very grateful to our commercial partners and viewers that have supported us, and now we hope to work with our partners in offering our great brands and content to all platforms in Latin America.”

The CBeebies brand, geared toward preschool audiences, will continue to operate as a linear channel, as an OTT offering and as an app in the U.S. Hispanic market. The CBeebies app will continue to be available in Latin America and the U.S. Hispanic market.

The move will only affect the Latin American region and will not impact BBC Worldwide’s businesses in the rest of the world.
