Banijay Mexico & U.S. Hispanic Reveals Initial Slate

The new Banijay label Banijay Mexico & U.S. Hispanic has unveiled its initial slate of original programming ahead of the opening of its Mexico City-based office and studios space.

The label has signed a deal with musician Becky G to produce an unscripted docuseries following the emerging all-female Latin group ANGEL22. The project will be co-produced with 2WS Films, and Becky G will serve as an executive producer. She will also appear in the series.

Banijay Mexico & U.S. Hispanic is also set to produce the next season of the hit Amazon original series LOL: Last One Laughing in Mexico for Prime Video. In addition, it will create a Latin American production hub for LOL that will be based in Mexico City and overseen by Marie Leguizamo, the label’s managing director.

In preparation for these upcoming projects and the opening of its office and studios space later this month, Banijay Mexico & U.S. Hispanic has hired the first members of the team, including Andrea Hülsz as executive director of physical production, Miguel Sanchez as director of development and Fernanda Ruiz is manager of development.

Hülsz joins the label from Banijay-owned Endemol Shine Boomdog, where she spent ten years producing top-rated series in the region. She most recently served as executive producer and worked on series such as Big Brother, Nailed It Mexico, LOL Mexico and Nicky Jam: El Ganador.

Sanchez comes from CMF Media, a co-production company he co-founded. He has developed formats for Cristina Palacio’s production company Alibi.

Ruiz is a writer, producer and podcaster who co-founded Kaptura Projects in 2015.

“Since we first announced the creation of Banijay Mexico & U.S. Hispanic late last year, we’ve hit the ground running, and I couldn’t be more excited about our initial slate of programming, the tremendous talent we are in business with, including Becky G, and the experienced team that we have assembled,” Leguizamo said. “There is a tremendous demand for high-quality, original content in this marketplace, and we are 100 percent focused on creating series that will resonate with audiences of all ages.”
