Viaplay Reveals Winners of First Talent Awards

Nordic Entertainment Group’s Viaplay has unveiled the three winners of its first Viaplay Original Talent Awards, which will all begin development and help new talent enter the streaming industry.

Among the winners, the Swedish satirical horror No Angel (Ingen ängel) centers on 17-year-old Angelica, who parties, smokes and sleeps around like everyone else her age. The only difference is that she’s also a serial killer. The series is created by EliSophie Andrée, with Isabelle Moreno as creative lead. Hawa Sanneh produces, while Viaplay Studios’ Alexander Tanno executive produces.

Crowded (Trengsel), a Norwegian black comedy, follows a group of young people attempting to navigate Oslo’s housing market. Created by Kristian Kilde and Nora Landsrød, the show is produced by Nordisk Film’s Caroline Hitland and Øyvind Eriksen. Sveinung Golimo executive produces.

The third winner, the Danish romantic drama One of the Boys (En af drengene), takes place in a small town where boys go on a “men’s trip” before beginning high school. Socially awkward Lau must prove he’s a real man while struggling with his attraction to another boy. It is created by Teys Schucany and Frederik Rye Nielsen. Apple Tree Production’s Rikke Rolver Elk and Mathias Bruunshøj Jakobsen serve as producers, while Piv Bernth executive produces.

Filippa Wallestam, Nordic Entertainment Group’s chief content officer, said: “Young creators often struggle to get support for their projects. Given the rapid growth of the Nordic creative industry, we’re passionate about addressing this. Viaplay has a proven record of supporting new voices, with very successful results, and this initiative will help build even more talents of tomorrow. We’re so impressed by the quality of the pitches—and can’t wait to see these stories on screen.”
