Hulu Confirms Catch-22, Lands ER for Streaming

Hulu has revealed more originals coming to the service, including Catch-22 with George Clooney, alongside content deals that bring programming such as ER.

Hulu has given a full series order for Catch-22, a six-part limited series event from Clooney, Paramount Television and Anonymous Content. It is based on the novel of the same name from Joseph Heller. Clooney will portray Colonel Cathcart and will direct the series alongside his Smokehouse Pictures partner Grant Heslov.

Catch-22 is a rare story that has withstood the test of time, not only as a literary masterpiece, but as a story that still resonates in today’s political and social conversation,” said Hulu’s chief content officer, Joel Stillerman. “These are exactly the types of stories we want to be programming at Hulu, and we couldn’t be happier to partner with George Clooney, Paramount TV and this phenomenal group of creatives to bring one of the most well-known books of all time to viewers in a way that has never been seen before.”

Hulu also signed a new agreement with Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution that will see the streaming debut of ER. All 15 seasons, more than 330 episodes, are available in SVOD for the first time ever exclusively on Hulu.

The Handmaid’s Tale will return for season two on April 25, with two new episodes. Subsequent episodes will be released every Wednesday. The 13-episode second season will be shaped by Offred’s pregnancy and her ongoing fight to free her future child from the dystopian horrors of Gilead.

Hulu will premiere the second four-part installment of the drama series National Treasure on April 4. The service will also present the sequel to March of the Penguins, March of the Penguins 2: The Next Step.

“We are committed to creating a curated, diverse, and boundary-pushing collection of content,” said Stillerman. “And, we are doing just that by adding even more beloved shows like ER, as well as expanding our offering of brand defining original series, all within a world class on-demand experience. As we continue to explore what it means to make content in a streaming world, we are incredibly bullish on Hulu’s prospects for this year and beyond.”
