MIAMI: Univision Communications Inc. (UCI) has formed a joint venture with seasoned producer Patricio Wills to develop edgy, action-packed series primarily for prime-time broadcast on U.S. Hispanic network UniMás.

The new company, to be based in Miami, will produce exclusive content for UniMás and its digital platforms. The first project is expected to begin airing in October.

Wills has more than three decades of production experience. He is an executive producer of La Viuda Negra II (Black Widow II), which will debut on February 28 at 10 p.m. with a world premiere simulcast on Univision, UniMás and Galavisión, and on Univision digital platforms. His other credits include La Reina del Sur (Queen of the South) and Zorro, among many others in both the U.S. and Latin America. Throughout his career, Wills has collaborated with a number of leading writers, producers and talent. He previously served as CEO and partner at Producciones RTI in Colombia, and creator and president of Telemundo Studios.

“Patricio is, without a doubt, an innovator and one of the best content creators in media,” said Randy Falco, the president and CEO of UCI. “As we continue to grow UniMás as one of the leading Spanish-language broadcast networks, we are pleased to join forces with Patricio to continue to innovate and bring our audience the best in alternative formats and stories.”

Wills added: “We are in the right place, at the right time and with the right partner. The Hispanic U.S. market, Univision and now! Nothing beats that!”
