Univision Ends Miss Universe Partnership Over Trump Comments

MIAMI: Univision Communications is cutting its ties with the Miss Universe Organization following recent comments by Donald Trump about Mexican immigrants that the media company calls “insulting remarks.”

Trump, who is part-owner of the organization behind the annual beauty pageant, said while announcing his presidential candidacy on June 16 that he would raise a wall along the U.S. border to keep out Mexican “rapists” and drug dealers.

“At Univision, we see first-hand the work ethic, love for family, strong religious values and the important role Mexican immigrants and Mexican-Americans have had and will continue to have in building the future of our country,” said a statement from Univision. “We will not be airing the Miss USA pageant on July 12 or working on any other projects tied to the Trump Organization.”

However, the major media group did say its news division would cover Trump’s bid for the White House “to ensure our audience continues to have access to all points of view.”
