MEXICO CITY:  As of this week, TV Azteca is managing its own team of worldwide content-sales representatives, effectively ending its relationship with long-time distributor Comarex.

Fidela Navarro, TV Azteca’s recently named director of content distribution and international channels, broke the news, stating that content distribution will now fall under the direct control and supervision of the company.

“We need to be closer to the client and directly support our sellers, as well as analyze and extend the reach of our content in all territories,” Navarro said.

The new distribution infrastructure will be based in Mexico, where it will be led by Ramón Salomón as head of operations. Salomón will be charged with coordinating the new team, carrying out marketing strategies and developing new customer services.

“We will learn more about the needs of our partners and audiences, channeling more diverse content while receiving feedback on results,” said Salomón, who has worked at companies such as BBC Worldwide and HBO Latin America Group.

As part of the changes in the company’s sales strategy, Comarex, which is led by Marcel Vinay Melgar and chaired by Marcel Vinay Hill, will stop distributing TV Azteca’s content.

“The work that both [companies] have done over the years has been instrumental in terms of positioning our content, and we are grateful,” Navarro said. “We now begin a new phase that requires changes, a new vision and a new team effort.”
