NEW YORK/MIAMI: NBCUniversal’s Telemundo and mun2 networks, which hold the Spanish-language broadcast rights for the FIFA World Cup in the U.S., have announced a 2015 broadcast plan totaling more than 550 hours of FIFA soccer events across their platforms.

As part of that plan, the channels are scheduled to feature 188 FIFA matches. The programming strategy will include coverage of the Men’s FIFA U-20 World Cup, hosted by New Zealand; the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada; the Men’s FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup hosted by Portugal; and the FIFA U-17 World Cup played in Chile. Additionally, the networks unveiled a composite harmonizing the images of the two U.S. Hispanic channels with the recently released 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia emblem.

The Telemundo network and its stations will incorporate FIFA World Cup content in their regular programming to keep audiences informed of the latest news and developments. Meanwhile, mun2 will deliver high-profile sports properties including the Barclays Premier League (BPL), the NFL on mun2, the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and the NASCAR Mexico Toyota Series.

“Three years and one week ago, NBCUniversal announced the game-changing acquisition of the exclusive Spanish-language U.S. media rights to the FIFA World Cup,” said Joe Uva, the chairman of Hispanic enterprises and content at NBCUniversal. “Today we are proud to see the first tangible manifestation of this major acquisition, which will bring unprecedented exposure for Telemundo and mun2 and offer a unique opportunity to accelerate audience growth and consolidate our position in the industry.”
