Smithsonian Channel will bring its lineup of original content across a wide range of historical, scientific and cultural topics, all in HD, to audiences in LatAm. The channel will also be providing 4K programming for DIRECTV and will be available on the Oro HD package in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Uruguay and the non-U.S. Caribbean.

“As we continue to grow our business internationally, we’re thrilled to be launching our award-winning and diverse slate of programming on DIRECTV Latin America,” said Tom Hayden, the president of Smithsonian Networks. “We love seeing our brand resonate all over the world, and are pleased that viewers in Latin America will now have access to our channel.”

“As a leading provider of digital entertainment services in Latin America, we are thrilled to be the first to bring the quality and breadth of Smithsonian Channel’s content to our audiences,” said Rick Nerod, the senior VP of content at DIRECTV Latin America. “And by making 4K UHD technology available to the region, we reaffirm our commitment to be at the forefront of technology and to deliver the best experience to our customers.”

The agreement to launch the channel was brokered by Castalia Communications.
