NEW YORK: Of all the new programs that were launched in Latin America last month, TV Globo’s Rock Story stirred up the most buzz in social media, according to The WIT.

The telenovela about a fallen rock singer who is trying to regain his popularity saw around 31,000 comments across Twitter and Facebook.

Carinha de Anjo, which debuted on SBT in Brazil, had around 21,000 tweets about the premiere. The kids’ telenovela is a local adaptation of the novela Carita de Angel that aired in Mexico in 2000-2001, about a charming 5-year-old girl who dreams of building a new family after her mother dies and she is sent to a boarding school by her father.

The debut of La Candidata on Mexico’s Las Estrellas stirred up some 16,000 social-media comments. The political telenovela is about a successful senator who begins to uncover her husband’s corrupt ways and ultimately decides to challenge him in a race to be the next president.

There were some 14,000 tweets about the premiere of Por amarte así, which launched on Telefe in Argentina. The telenovela tells the love story between a prestigious lawyer and the client he represents.

Ellos están, aquí debuted on Canal RCN in Colombia, with around 11,000 tweets sent about the broadcast. The paranormal entertainment show follows the investigations led by host Rafa Taibo accompanied by a team of experts in supernatural phenomena (clergymen, clairvoyants…) and parapsychologists.

FOX Sports in Argentina launched Fuera de eje, a sports magazine show targeted at teens dealing with alternative and unusual sports, hosted by celebrity presenters Solange Abraham and Nicolas Occhiato (highly popular among teens, seen in the reality formats Gran Hermano and Combate). There were around 9,000 tweets about the debut.

El Cubo. Secretos en cuatro paredes on Chilevision saw some 8,000 comments on social media. It is a local adaptation of the format La Caja, in its celebrity version. In each episode, a guest goes inside a huge cube and answers questions asked by a voiceover as some clips and memories are projected on screen to fuel the conversation.

La ley del corazón premiered on Canal RCN in Colombia and garnered around 5,000 tweets. The legal telenovela follows the schemes at an acclaimed law firm where family, divorce and criminal attorneys have to deal with their own emotional problems just like their clients.

The launch of Nafta súper on Space in Argentina also saw around 5,000 comments on Facebook and Twitter. The fantasy comedy series was adapted from the Argentinean film Kryptonita released in cinemas in 2015. The series takes place ten months after the film’s plot and features the adventures of a gang of criminals with rough manners but with colorful profiles, led by the all-powerful leader “Nafta súper.”

From América TV in Peru, El regreso de Lucas generated around 4,000 tweets. The super series tells the story of a child who was kidnapped on the beach where he was with his parents and resurfaces 20 years later. It is slated to air in Argentina on Telefe and stars Casi Angeles actor Pablo Mártinez in the role of Lucas.
