NEW YORK: Of all the new programs that were launched in Latin America in June, Batalha dos Cozinheiros on Brazil’s Rede Record generated the most buzz on social media, with around 19,300 comments on Facebook and Twitter, according to The WIT.

Batalha dos Cozinheiros is a cooking challenge hosted by Buddy Valastro of Cake Boss, in which 26 pairs of amateur cooks battle it out in themed competitions. There was much conversation on social media about the #Lively and #Funny show hosted by the #CharismaticBuddy and the #Yummy dishes featured.

Number two on the list of top ten new most-talked-about shows on social media last month is Sres. Papis, which debuted on Chile’s Mega. This local adaptation of an Argentine telenovela garnered 12,700 comments on social media. It tells the parallel stories of three very different dads who meet and become friends at their kids’ daycare. Many of those commenting in social media thought the program was #Entertaining and had a #CharmingCast and were sharing #LOLTweets.

Broadcast by Televisión Pública in Argentina, El marginal drew 7,900 comments on Twitter and Facebook. The police drama follows a cop who agrees to be locked up in prison to investigate a gang of kidnappers working from their prison cells. Comments on social media were about the #GreatCast of the #Thrilling series that had a nice #LocalFeel.

With 7,100 comments, Por siempre Joan Sebastian, el poeta del pueblo landed in the number four spot on the list of buzzworthy TV shows. The biographical novela debuted on Univision in the U.S. The production tells the story of popular Mexican singer Joan Sebastian, who died in 2015. He is played in the series by his children, José Manuel Figueroa and Julián Figueroa. The series will soon be launched on Televisa in Mexico. There was much talk on social media about the #IconicArtist and the #Emotional broadcast, with many giving the #ThumbsUp.

From Telefe in Argentina, the show La peluquería de Don Mateo received 6,700 comments on Facebook and Twitter. The program is a remake of the classic 1980s local comedy entertainment show of the same name. The action is set in the backdrop of a hair salon, where comedian Jey Mammon plays the hairdresser who takes care of his usual client (played by Marley as himself), along with the beautician Flor de Aleli (Flor Peña). The #DivdidedAudience was sending some #LOLTweets and commenting about the #CastChemistry or saying that the show was #NotSpontaneousEnough, was an #OutdatedFormat or that it had an #OutdatedCast.

The romantic telenovela Entre tu amor y mi amor, from Venevisión in Venezuela, positioned itself sixth on the list of top ten buzzy shows last month. It tells the story of a young provincial girl who just arrived in town and a young cosmopolitan boy who falls in love with her. The #Polarizing show generated messages from both #UnconditionalFans and those who thought it was #TooConventional and were #NotImpressed.

Silencios de familia on Argentina’s Canal 13 (El Trece) received a total of 6,200 comments on Twitter and Facebook. This drama series spotlights couples’ relationships as they meet, tear each other apart, split up and make up. Many in social media were giving #Kudos for the show’s #RealisticVibe and #QualityCast.

In eighth place is Por ti from TVN in Chile, with a total of 4,200 comments on social media. The daytime talk show is broadcast live and spotlights true stories of happy or unhappy passions, reunions and reconciliations. The audience commenting in social media thought the show was #Authentic and #Moving and had a #NiceFormat.

Ridículos on MTV Brazil is a local adaptation of the Ridiculousness format that aired on MTV in the U.S. The program, which generated 4,100 comments on Facebook and Twitter, features three hosts and a celebrity guest who comment on the internet’s funniest videos and clips sent by users. There were many comments about the #GreatHosts and #GreatGuest, as well as a lot of #LOLTweets about the #FunConcept.

Shark Tank México: Negociando con tiburones, which aired on Sony Canal and the SVOD platform Claro video, generated 3,600 comments on social networks. The local adaptation of the Dragons’ Den format sees entrepreneurs get the chance to make their dreams come true and become successful and possibly wealthy business people. Audiences were applauding the #GreatFormat and #NiceBusinessIdeas with comments on social media about the #Insightful series.
