Globosat Names New Director of International Channels

SÃO PAULO: Brazil’s Globosat has named Marcelo Spinola its new director of international channels as it gears up for expansion into pay-TV markets across the globe.

As part of his duties, Spinola will be charged with developing projects and finding opportunities for Globosat outside of Brazil on the pay-TV market. The exec most recently served as TV Globo Internacional’s director, though he’d previously worked at Globosat helping to launch a U.S. channel and managing Globosat networks in Portugal.

“Marcelo Spinola is totally [qualified] to contribute to the expansion of our business outside the country, not only because he has actively participated in this work in previous years, but he also brings the knowledge acquired at the expansion of Globo Internacional channel,” said Alberto Pecegueiro, the general director at Globosat.

Spinola added: “This will be a big challenge. I believe that there are many opportunities on the international market for a world-class company [such] as Globosat. The goal is to take a management model with the quality of the TV programmer, which launched tens of successful pay-TV channels in Brazil, and that, allied with strategic partners, may achieve enormous success on the pay-TV market abroad.”
