BUENOS AIRES: FOX International Channels (FIC) has created a new position within its Latin American team that will work to fight against illegal pay-TV connections, tapping Daniel Steinmetz as the chief anti-piracy officer.

Steinmetz will be working on the development, implementation and evaluation of the company’s plans to combat pay-TV piracy and sub-reporting in Latin America. He will work out of Santiago, Chile. Steinmetz reports to Marcela Martin, the executive VP and chief financial officer for FIC Latin America.

Martin said: “Illegal connections and sub-reporting have caused huge losses to the cable TV industry directly affecting its growth; there is no more urgent matter than stopping this illicit and we won’t hesitate to take legal actions to combat this theft. Daniel brings to our company an ideal combination of deep media knowledge along with legal and regulatory experience that make him a great asset for our company. I am delighted he’s joining our team.”

“FOX International Channels Latin America has been at the forefront of fighting pay-TV piracy for the last decade becoming the first multimedia company in Latin America in establishing strategic alliances and generating initiatives to combat piracy and sub-reporting,” added Carlos Martínez, the president of FOX International Channels Latin America. “We welcome Daniel and look forward to benefiting from his broad expertise in these matters.”
