Dataxis: 5.3 Million Colombian Pay-TV Households by 2018

BUENOS AIRES: The Colombian pay-TV market is expected to reach 5.3 million households by 2018, a 3.4-percent increase from end of 2015, according to a new Dataxis report.

In its Pay TV Series 2015: Colombia study, Dataxis forecast that total pay-TV revenues will reach $884 million by 2018, with total ARPU being $13.89. Although Colombia is the country with the fourth largest pay-TV subscriber base in Latin America, legal pay-TV household penetration will remain relatively low at 40.9 percent by end of this year. Dataxis notes that the proportion of households with legal pay-TV services will decrease to 39.3 percent by 2018.

In turn, Dataxis forecast that CATV will remain the leading delivery network by 2018, although its market share will diminish over the years, in part due to a challenging economic environment and increased competition. Homes with CATV pay-TV services will account for 64.8 percent of total Colombian pay-TV households in 2015.

The study found that by 2018, DTH services will generate 50.9 percent of total revenues, CATV operations will represent 43.7 percent and IPTV the remaining 5.4 percent.
