STUDIOCANAL has sold the Italian crime thriller La Porta Rossa and the comedic single drama Danny and the Human Zoo to AMC Networks International (AMCNI) for the Latin American region.

La Porta Rossa, a Velafilm production for Rai 2 in Italy, is headed to the Europa Europa channel later this year. The crime thriller with a supernatural twist has 12 one-hour episodes.

From RED Production Company for BBC One, Danny and the Human Zoo is loosely based on actor and comedian Lenny Henry’s life as a working-class teenager in 1970s Dudley. The two-hour TV movie will air on the Film&Arts channel later in 2018.

“The innovative storyline and production of La Porta Rossa bolsters Europa Europa’s content offering and aligns perfectly with the network’s mission and positioning while addressing universal issues with which Latin American audiences can identify,” said Pablo Corona, the VP of programming and acquisitions at AMC Networks International – Latin America.

Beatriz Campos, the head of international sales at STUDIOCANAL, commented, “We’re delighted to see both titles find prestigious Latin American homes among the AMC suite of channels. The sale of an Italian language series to the region is once more indicative of a true shift in viewing habits where foreign language is concerned—high-quality series really do have the potential to travel globally in this age where good storytelling is everything and the origin of content is far less important.”
