The U.K.’s Department for Culture, Media and Sport has issued the draft of a new Media Bill, which will see streamers being brought under Ofcom regulation and additional freedoms for broadcasters to help them compete with the global giants.

The U.K. government has confirmed that Channel 4 will not be sold, instead opting for a series of reforms to help the broadcaster compete in the streaming age.

The television license fee in the U.K. will remain at £159 until 2024, before rising in line with inflation for four years.

The U.K. government is looking to introduce new regulations on on-demand services and is mulling the privatization of Channel 4.

A new report by the U.K.'s Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Committee (DCMS) has concluded that the BBC will have to continue to rely on the TV license fee, in part because the government has "failed to put in place the necessary broadband infrastructure that would facilitate other funding mechanisms."
