Roughcut Backs Scripted Comedy Venture from Jon Petrie

Roughcut TV is backing the brand-new production company Little a, which is led by Jon Petrie, producer of the BAFTA-winning sitcom People Just Do Nothing.

Little a will specialize in the development and production of scripted comedy content, based on original ideas and personal stories. The company has already secured its first commission with Channel 4, Stath Lets Flats, a co-production with Roughcut TV. The comedy series follows Stath—played by Jamie Demetriou (Fleabag, Tracey Ullman’s Show, Gap Year)—an incompetent lettings agent, on his day-to-day antics at a dodgy London lettings agency run by Stath’s father. Written by Demetriou and Friday Night Dinner creator Robert Popper, the series will be executive produced by Petrie. It is due to air this summer.

Petrie, the managing director of Little a, said: “From People Just Do Nothing to Stath Lets Flats, I’ve always got my kicks out of developing new talent into established comedy stars. ‘Little a’ gives me the perfect opportunity to help funny and exciting people to get their ideas made for TV and emerging platforms…plus, calling myself a ‘managing director’ finally makes my parents think I’ve managed to get a proper job.”

Ash Atalla, the managing director of Roughcut TV, added: “‘I’ve worked with Jon for the last 10 years and he’s one of the best creatives I know. Like all marriages, you have to keep things exciting in the bedroom, so hopefully, our ‘Little a’ adventure will mean we get to ‘do it’ for years to come.”
