STARZ is continuing to build out the reach of the direct-to-consumer OTT app Lionsgate Play, with a new launch in Malaysia.

The deal with Telekom Malaysia (Unifi TV) follows the app’s successful debut in India in 2019 and further expansion into Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and the Philippines. With the launch, STARZ becomes the most extensively distributed streaming service among all global platforms across Asia.

Lionsgate Play Malaysia will feature film franchises such as The Hunger Games, The Twilight Saga and Now You See Me, as well as series such as Weeds, Power, Mad Men and The Spanish Princess. Its offering will also include Academy Award-winning films from other major studios, including The Aviator, Babel and Remember Me.

Rohit Jain, managing director of South Asia and networks for emerging markets Asia at Lionsgate Play, said, “We’re thrilled to launch the eagerly-anticipated Lionsgate Play app in Malaysia, delivering the finest global entertainment to captivate our audiences with bespoke content encompassing current releases and our vast premium library, all at an affordable price and at consumers’ convenience. We’re also pleased to launch with a great partner in Telekom Malaysia, who will give us a strong head start in the territory with their broadband reach and deep streaming offering.”

Ho Hock Doong, head of content for Unifi TV at Telekom Malaysia, said, “We are ecstatic to announce our partnership with global content leader Lionsgate Play. This partnership will solidify our strong consumer offering with an extensive premium library. Lionsgate Play boasts iconic, bold and edgy content that is gripping and will be loved by our subscribers.”
