Regina King Inks Exclusive First-Look Deal with Netflix

Netflix has entered into a multiyear first-look deal with multihyphenate Regina King, who recently won an Academy Award for her role in If Beale Street Could Talk.

Royal Ties, King’s production company, is entering into the first-look deal to produce films and series for Netflix. Serving as head of production of the shingle is her sister, Reina King.

In addition to her Oscar win, King, who was named one of Time Magazine’s most influential people of 2019, also has an Emmy Award for her work in the Netflix crime drama Seven Seconds. Behind the camera, King has directed episodes of This is Us, The Good Doctor and the season three finale of Insecure. Her upcoming projects include starring in the upcoming Damon Lindeloff series Watchmen.

Ted Sarandos, Netflix’s chief content officer, said: “Regina King is a multifaceted talent both behind and in front of the camera. She’s been a trailblazer for years, with boundless creativity and impeccable taste in projects, and we couldn’t be more thrilled that she will bring her formidable talents to Netflix.”
