MADRID/SANTA MONICA: Attractions based on Orange Is the New Black and Nashville and feature-film franchises such as The Hunger Games and Saw are being developed following a deal between Lionsgate and leisure park operator Parques Reunidos.

The deal with the indie studio sees the development of Lionsgate-branded leisure centers for high traffic shopping areas. Parques Reunidos owns and operates 62 developments in 14 markets in Europe, Asia and the Americas. It is eyeing growth in its leisure centers business, currently negotiating the development of a total of 20 over the coming years. This would be in addition to the agreements already signed with Spain’s Thader Shopping Mall, Portugal’s Dolce Vita Tejo, intu Lakeside in London and two at Madrid Xanadú that will be ready to open soon.

“This agreement enables us to continue growing by using one of the strongest tools for international expansion, leisure centers in shopping malls and high traffic shopping areas, and we are doing this hand in hand with Lionsgate, one of the most successful film and television production companies in the world,” said Fernando Eiroa, CEO of Parques Reunidos. “This agreement joins those already signed in recent months and highlights the speed and efficacy with which we are closing major alliances. This enables us to accelerate our growth and consolidate our leadership of the sector.”

Jenefer Brown, senior VP of location-based entertainment at Lionsgate, commented, “We’re excited to be partnering with Parques Reunidos. They have proven success in the leisure market, and we feel they are the perfect partners to help us bring fans closer to the properties they love through these compelling, innovative experiences.”
