Lionsgate Inks Overall TV Deal with Karyn Usher & Lisa Zwerling

SANTA MONICA/VANCOUVER: Writer-producers Karyn Usher and Lisa Zwerling have entered into an overall television deal with Lionsgate, with original scripted programming coming through their new company, Carpool Entertainment.

Zwerling previously had an overall deal with ABC Studios, under which she executive produced Betrayal and co-executive produced FlashForward. Zwerling created and executive produced NBC’s Midnight Sun and spent five seasons as a producer-writer-editor on ER. Usher recently concluded an overall deal with 20th Century Fox Television. She was a writer and co-executive producer on Prison Break and also wrote and co-executive produced two seasons of Bones.

“Lisa and Karyn are remarkably talented writers and producers who bring a wealth of series television experience to Lionsgate,” said Chris Selak, the executive VP of television at Lionsgate Television Group. “We are continually impressed with their artistic range and are thrilled about exploring new opportunities and creating new worlds together as we continue to broaden our Lionsgate TV brand.”

“We’ve gained a lot of valuable experience over the years, and are excited about the ever-evolving nature of television right now,” said Usher and Zwerling. “We wanted to find a new way to expand our capabilities, both in creating shows and helping other writers execute their visions. Lionsgate takes a unique approach in making great shows and finding the perfect home for them. We’re super lucky to be here.”
