TV Latina’s Festival FAST concluded today with Alejandro Rojas, VP of applied analytics at Parrot Analytics, and Luciano Zarlenga, chief analytics officer at BB Media, highlighting the progress and development of FAST channels globally, as well as comparisons and differences with Latin America, among other topics.

“From a practical and global perspective, there is rapid growth in all FAST channels,” explained Rojas in a conversation with Elizabeth Bowen-Tombari, editor of TV Latina, which you can watch in its entirety here. “The U.S., being always a bit more ahead, is the most competitive market and where there is the most content. However, Latin America is closing that gap because, in the end, the FAST platform is another way to monetize content where there is a market opportunity that has already been proven by some players such as Pluto TV, which has grown exponentially.”

Zarlenga from BB Media added, “Since 2015, we have been observing consumption trends, and the most recent finding is the preference of users to watch ad-supported content. While it’s true that the subscription model is still preferred by users, most households combine it with an AVOD service. Subscription plans that include advertising but are cheaper are also gaining popularity.”

Rojas also highlighted the current value of free and pay-TV compared to FAST channels, as well as the receptivity, adaptation and usage by audiences. Meanwhile, Zarlenga focused on the consumption and adaptation of FAST channels when different generations coexist in the same environment.
