Canneseries to Honor Darren Star, Patrick Dempsey at MIPCOM

At MIPCOM, Canneseries and the city of Cannes will be honoring showrunner Darren Star (Sex and the City, Melrose Place, Younger, Beverly Hills, 90210) and actor Patrick Dempsey (Grey’s Anatomy, The Truth about the Harry Quebert Affair).

Canneseries will present the Excellence Award to Dempsey, in honor of his 30-year career in television and film, on October 14 at 4 p.m. Cannes Mayor David Lisnard will present the award alongside Reed MIDEM Chief Executive Paul Zilk and Canneseries President Fleur Pellerin and Managing Director Benoît Louvet.

“This is such a tremendous honor, I am so thankful to Canneseries for this award,” said Dempsey.

Pellerin and Louvet will officially announce Star as the Patron of Canneseries Season 03 on October 14 at 5:30 p.m., in recognition of his contribution to the TV industry as a creator and executive producer for the last three decades.

“Canneseries is delighted to honor Patrick Dempsey, whose McDreamy character is one of the most iconic embodiments of series history, and to benefit from the support of a showrunner as respected as Darren Star as the Patron of our third season,” said Canneseries Artistic Director Albin Lewi.

“Being Patron of the third annual Canneseries Festival is a true honor,” commented Star. “I have been in France filming my new show, Emily in Paris, for the past couple of months now and it’s been an eye opening and new experience for me, filming outside of the U.S. I look forward to discovering new creative talents and interesting series from around the world.”
