2017 International Emmy Award Nominees Unveiled

The nominations for the 2017 International Emmy Awards have been announced by the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, with 44 nominees across 11 categories and 18 countries.

Nominees come from Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, France, Germany, Japan, Mexico, the Netherlands, Norway, the Philippines, South Africa, Thailand, Turkey, the U.K. and the U.S.

The comedy category features Alan Partridge’s Scissored Isle (Baby Cow Productions), Callboys (Woestijnvis/FBO), Rakugo The Movie (East Entertainment/NHK) and Tá No Ar: a TV na TV (On Air: TV on TV) (TV Globo).

For drama series, the nominees are Justiça (Above Justice) (TV Globo), Mammon II (NRK Drama/SVT/DR/YLE FEM/Nordvision Fund), Moribito: Guardian of the Spirit (NHK) and Wanted (NBCUniversal’s Matchbox Pictures).

The nominees for best telenovela feature 30 Vies—Isabelle Cousineau (Aetios Productions), Kara Sevda (Endless Love) (Ay Yapım), Totalmente Demais (Total Dreamer) (TV Globo) and Velho Chico (Old River) (TV Globo).

In the category for TV movie/miniseries, the nominated programs are Alemão (Alemão: Both Sides of the Operation) (TV Globo), Ne m’abandonne pas (Don’t Leave Me) (Scarlett Production/France Télévisions), Reg (LA Productions/BBC) and Tokyo Trial (Don Carmody Television/NHK/FATT Productions).

The best performance by an actor nominees are Julio Andrade in Um Contra Todos (One Against All) (Fox Networks Groups Brazil/Conspiração Filmes), Kenneth Branagh in Wallander (Left Bank Pictures/Yellow Bird/BBC/TKBC), Zanjoe Marudo in Maalaala Mo Kaya (Remembering) (ABS-CBN Corporation) and Kad Merad in Baron Noir (Kwaï/Canal+ Creation originale/Pictanovo). In the actress arena, the nominees are Adriana Esteves in Justiça (Above Justice) (TV Globo), Anna Friel in Marcella (Buccaneer Media/Netflix), Sonja Gerhardt in Ku’damm 56 (Ku’damm 56: Rebel with a Cause) (UFA Fiction/ZDF) and Thuso Mbedu in Is’thunzi (Mzansi Magic/Rapid Blue).

The nominated documentaries are EXODUS: Our Journey to Europe (KEO Films/BBC Two), The Phone of the Wind: Whispers to Lost Families (NHK), Le Studio de la Terreur (Terror Studios) (Capa Presse/Canal+/Creative Europe/Region Ile-de-France) and Tempestad (Pimienta Films/Cactus Films/Terminal Films).

For arts programming, the nominees are Hip-Hop Evolution: The Foundation (Banger Films), Never-Ending Man: Hayao Miyazaki (NHK), Portátil (Porta Dos Fundos) and Robin de Puy: Ik ben het allemaal zelf (Robin’s Road Trip) (Talent United/AVROTROS/CoBO).

Up for the International Emmy for non-English U.S. prime-time program are Hasta Que Te Conocí (Until I Met You) (Disney Media Distribution/Somos Producciones/IGSFA Management/BTF Media), La Voz Kids (Talpa Holding/Talpa B.V./Talpa Media USA/Red Orange Productions/Telemundo/NBCUniversal Television Group/Warner Horizon/Warner Bros. Entertainment), Odisea de los Niños Migrantes (South to North: Migrant Children) (NatGeo Mundo/Fox Networks Group Latin America/National Geographic Channel Latin America/Anima Films) and Sr. Ávila (HBO Latin America/Lemon Films).

The programs in the non-scripted entertainment category are Escuela para Maridos Colombia (Fox Network Groups Latin America/Fox Telecolombia), Fan Pan Tae Super Fan (Thai Broadcasting Company/Workpoint Entertainment Public Company), Sorry Voor Alles (Sorry About That) (VRT/Warner Bros International Television Production België) and Taskmaster (Avalon Television).

The contenders in the short-form series arena are Ahi Afuera (Studio +/Iconoclast), The Amazing Gayl Pile (LaRue Entertainment), Crime Time (Studio +/John Doe Productions/22H22) and Familie Braun (The Braun Family) (Polyphon/ZDF).
