Starz Acquires MotherFatherSon

Starz has landed the rights to BBC Studios’ MotherFatherSon starring Richard Gere, and is set to launch the eight-part drama series this week.

The series, created by Tom Rob Smith, stars Gere in his first television role in three decades, alongside Helen McCrory and Billy Howle, as a powerful media mogul. It premieres on Starz June 21 and will also be available via the network’s app.

Starz’s acquisitions for its summer slate also include the Sundance Film Festival selection A Boy. A Girl. A Dream, starring Power‘s Omari Hardwick, for launch August 6, and Drunk Parents. It also picked up the docs The Great Mother, about the woman who serves as a legal guardian to more than 2,000 U.S.-citizen children of undocumented immigrants; Out of Omaha, executive produced by hip-hop star J. Cole; and Kleptocrats, about the embezzlement of money from Malaysia’s wealth fund 1MDB.
