CBS Corporation has invested in PatMa Productions, the venture led by former CBS Entertainment Chairman Nina Tassler and film and television producer Denise Di Novi.

As part of its deal with PatMa, CBS will have a first look at the company’s projects. CBS Studios will co-finance and co-produce projects set up at the CBS Television Network, Showtime and CBS All Access, with CBS Global Distribution Group holding distribution rights. PatMa, led by Tassler and Di Novi and President Joan Boorstein, will also develop for third parties.

Projects in development include American Martyrs for Showtime, based on Joyce Carol Oates’ novel A Book of American Martyrs. The series is being written by Winnie Holzman and Savannah Dooley, who will serve as executive producers.

“Nina and Denise are accomplished, creative leaders and proven producers who are respected across the industry for their artistic vision as well as their strong social consciousness,” said David Nevins, chief creative officer at CBS Corporation and chairman and CEO of Showtime Networks. “We are excited to partner with them to create programming that speaks to a wide range of audiences across all of our platforms, as well as others.”

“We could not have found a better or more supportive partner than CBS in our endeavor to create social relevance and commercial entertainment,” said Tassler and Di Novi. “A Book of American Martyrs is the perfect beginning. We are thrilled to have a writer of Winnie Holzman’s stature bringing the work of the esteemed Joyce Carol Oates to the screen.”
