CANCUN: The first-ever MIPCancun Latam TV Buyers Summit has wrapped, with 40 buyers from across the region in attendance for one-on-one meetings with distributors.

On Wednesday, during the official welcome address to attendees, Ted Baracos, the director of market development at Reed MIDEM, said that the goal of MIPCancun was to bring international distributors closer to Latin American buyers who are unable to go to events like MIPCOM or MIPTV, and that the market was a good opportunity to achieve this through previously scheduled one-on-one meetings. Buyers and sellers were matched in advance, according to various selection criteria.

Distributors hailed from 33 countries. Among those in attendance were A+E Networks, FremantleMedia, BBC Worldwide, Global Screen and Viacom International Media Networks.

"We're delighted with the extremely positive reaction of buyers and distributors alike to the event's one-to-one format and consider MIPCancun a resounding success in terms of the high level of satisfaction expressed by its inaugural participants," said Laurine Garaude, director of Reed MIDEM's TV division. “MIPCancun confirms the growing importance of the Latin American market and the enthusiasm among international distribution companies to spend quality business time with channel buyers from across the region.”

TV Latina and World Screen are media partners of MIPCancun.
