World Screen will present Diego Lerner, the president of The Walt Disney Company Latin America, with the Premio Ícono TV Latina 2021 at NATPE Virtual.

Lerner is being honored for his significant contributions to the Latin American media industry across his storied career. He will receive the award at NATPE Virtual on January 22 following a keynote conversation with Anna Carugati, the group editorial director of World Screen. The award is being presented in association with NATPE.

“Over his three decades at Disney, Diego Lerner has witnessed firsthand the dramatic evolution of the Latin American media sector,” says Ricardo Guise, the president and publisher of World Screen. “We are honored to be presenting him with the second annual Premio Ícono TV Latina as he and his team revolutionize the SVOD landscape in the region and set new trends for content production and distribution and fan engagement.”

As president of The Walt Disney Company Latin America, Lerner leads the company’s business in the region, working to capitalize on the changing media landscape and aligning the company’s priorities for future growth, including creating new high-quality content, technological innovation, global expansion and distribution in all its forms, business models and media, including direct-to-consumer. He works in close collaboration with the Disney Parks, Experiences and Products segment, supporting this business in the region. Most recently, Lerner was in charge of launching Disney+ in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Lerner, who has been part of The Walt Disney Company since 1990, led the launch of Disney channels in Latin America and was instrumental in crafting a strategy for creating local content throughout the region. The executive also headed Disney’s operations in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, before being appointed to lead the entire Latin American business in 2017.
