Viacom International Studios (VIS) and Comedy Central are working on the new series Ana, created by and starring Mexican actress Ana de la Reguera.

The series will be produced in Mexico and air on Comedy Central throughout Latin America in late 2019. Ana tells the story of the daughter of a Mexican beauty queen who tries to attain fame as an actress in Hollywood while having to fight the passage of time and the weight of her mother’s unfulfilled dreams.

With credits across TV and film, de la Reguera most recently starred in the drama series Goliath from David E. Kelley, in addition to a recurring role on hit show Power and guest arcs on Narcos and Jane the Virgin.

“Sometimes dreams really do come true, or fantasies anyway,” commented de la Reguera. “Our show combines elements of my real life—yes, my mother really was a beauty queen (she would kill me if I didn’t mention it)—with parts of my crazy fantasies. I have been developing the story for the past four years, I am so excited to announce our collaboration with Viacom International Studios and Comedy Central to bring you our new series Ana.”

“Viacom International Studios’ commitment is to develop and produce captivating programming for our partners and audiences across Latin America,” said Federico Cuervo, senior VP and head of VIS. “Having talent of the caliber of Ana de la Reguera join us to work on this project is further proof of the high-quality product we continue to create and offer for distribution around the globe.”

“We couldn’t be happier to further develop the relationship between Comedy Central and Ana,” added Tiago Worcman, senior VP and head of entertainment brands at VIMN Americas. “Since our first joint collaboration a couple of years ago on the Mexican adaptation of Drunk History, we knew we wanted to find new ways to have Ana work with the brand again, and this comedy will be the perfect fit for our audiences.”
