Lista Social Wit: January 2018

Of all the new programs that launched in Latin America last month, MTV diary: Lali on MTV Latinoamérica in Argentina stirred up the most buzz on social media, according to The WIT.

According to an estimate of the number of Facebook and Twitter comments during the first episode, MTV diary: Lali ranks first in the top 10 list, with some 123,000 tweets. The reality series follows the daily life of Argentinean pop star Lali Espósito, her latest international tour and her preparation for the major Luna Park two-part concert held last November in Buenos Aires.

Ranking second, Deus salve o Rei debuted on TV Globo in Brazil to around 85,000 comments. The period telenovela takes place in a fictional medieval kingdom, where two royal families live in peace despite their historical rivalry. However, the decisions of their monarchs will change the course of history.

The debut of Júnior Bake Off on SBT in Brazil saw some 24,000 tweets. The local adaptation of the kids’ pastry contest Junior Bake-Off is a spin-off of the format The Great Bake Off. In the show, ten contestants aged under 12 compete.

Canal 13 in Argentina launched Simona, and the first episode drew around 17,000 comments on social media. The musical telenovela centers on Simona, who has always dreamed of being a singer, but has had a complicated childhood: she grew up without her real mother and works as a servant in the service of a brilliant traumatologist.

There were some 13,000 tweets about the debut of El club de Eva on Azteca 1 in Mexico. The talk show sees popular host Laura G delve into all kinds of female-oriented topics, along with a team of co-hosts that help her cover the full spectrum: singleton Andrea Escalona, married woman Laura G, married woman with experience Annette Cuburu, and divorced woman Verónica del Castillo.

Luciana, mamá debuted on Canal 13 in Argentina, garnering some 13,000 comments. The one-off reality special follows Argentinean model Luciana Salazar as she is about to become a mother and welcome little Matilda in her life, after choosing to give birth via surrogacy in the U.S.

Brazil’s TV Globo launched Entre Irmãs, which saw around 7,000 tweets. In the 1930s, two sisters from a modest background and separated by fate have to face prejudices and machismo. One enters the high society through marriage, and the other a group of nomadic bandits in the countryside. Despite the distance, they know they can count on each other. The series uses images from the movie of the same name released in 2017 and new scenes.

Garzón vive‘s premiere on Canal RCN in Colombia brought with it some 6,000 comments. The biographical telenovela is based on the life of Jaime Garzón, a journalist well-known for the part he played as a negotiator between the government and the FARCs and was shot dead in 1999 under mysterious circumstances.

There were also around 6,000 tweets about the debut of Adiós Haití on Canal 13 in Chile. The factual travel program sees journalist Sol Leyton leave for an immersion in Haiti to grasp the reality of the trying daily life in a country that is the victim of terrible crises, with the majority of the inhabitants living under the poverty line in disastrous sanitary conditions.

Coming in at number 10, Involucrados, aquí y ahora on América TV in Argentina had some 5,000 social-media comments. The morning talk show is hosted by Mariano Iúdica, along with Pia Shaw and Débora Plager. It features a mix of news (on politics, economy, society) and lighthearted segments, along with interviews of artists or news-making people across the country.
