BritBox Gears Up for Nordic Launch

BBC and ITV’s joint streamer BritBox is set to launch in Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland on April 28 with thousands of hours of premium British content.

Nordic viewers will gain access to critically acclaimed BritBox originals, exclusive new series and a wide range of TV classics, all spanning drama, crime, comedy, factual entertainment and lifestyle.

At launch, BritBox subscribers in the Nordics will be able to watch Crime, adapted by author Irvine Welsh from his best-selling novel and starring Dougray Scott (Mission: Impossible 2, Batwoman), and The Cleaner, from Greg Davies and starring Helena Bonham Carter, both of which debuted this month. Viewers can also catch seasons 17 and 18 of MasterChef UK exclusively on BritBox, as well as season six of the police series Line of Duty.

The BritBox slate also includes Stonehouse, starring Matthew Macfadyen and Keeley Hawes; The Thief, His Wife, and the Canoe, starring Eddie Marsan; Sister Boniface Mysteries, starring Lorna Watson and Jerry Iwu; and The Confessions of Frannie Langton, starring Sophie Cookson and Jodhi May. The streamer plans to launch exclusive new titles every month, from Idris Elba’s Fight School to Anne.

BritBox will be available to C More subscribers in Denmark, Finland and Sweden and on TV 2 Play in Norway. Viewers will also be able to access it via its website, on Android and Apple mobiles and tablets, Fire TV, Apple TV, Android TV, Samsung smart TVs and LG smart TVs.

“Adding fresh originals to our deep range of genres and quality classics is a powerful combination that has just helped us surpass 2.5 million subscribers around the world,” said Reemah Sakaan, BritBox International’s CEO. “Now, the BritBox team can’t wait to bring some of Britain’s biggest established names and brightest breakthrough stars to millions of new fans in the Nordics.”

“We know that Nordic viewers are huge fans of British TV, and we’re sure they’ll be hooked on the content we’ll be including in BritBox from launch,” added Neale Dennett, BritBox International’s new markets launch director. “Signing up is easy with our seven-day free trial and provides the immediate ability to binge-watch favorites like Peaky Blinders, Vera, The Office and classics such as Absolutely Fabulous, Blackadder and Prime Suspect. We’ll also be bringing a wide range of the iconic period drama titles that Britain is so famous for, including Andrew Davies’ landmark Pride and Prejudice, as well as Brideshead Revisited, freshly remastered in HD.”
