BBC Worldwide Lands Commissions Across Europe

LONDON: BBC Worldwide has secured five new commissions for its production bases in the Nordics, France and Germany.

BBC Worldwide Nordics, which was formed a year ago, will be producing two new projects, Stupid Man, Smart Phone for Denmark’s TV2 Zulu channel and Weakest Link (Heikoin lenkki) for Nelonen in Finland. This marks the first sale of the Stupid Man, Smart Phone format. Weakest Link has sold into 46 countries since debuting in the U.K. in 2000.

BBC Worldwide France, meanwhile, was commissioned to produce Love Productions’ The Great Bake Off: Crème de la Crème (Le Meilleur Patissier: Les Professionnels) for M6. Additionally, BBC Worldwide’s joint venture with All3Media in Germany, Tower Productions, will be producing The Great Celebrity Bake Off for Sat.1. It will also produce the BBC format Everybody’s Business for Kabel1.

BBC Worldwide will launch a range of new shiny-floor formats at BBC Worldwide Showcase 2017, including the BBC Studios prime-time talent search Let It Shine and the Whizzkid Entertainment format Let’s Sing & Dance.

Paul Dempsey, the president of global markets for BBC Worldwide, said, “We’re proud of our success in localizing British shows for audiences around the world and Showcase gives us the perfect platform to introduce even more international broadcasters to our brilliant catalog. We’ve got a great lineup planned for Liverpool with very high hopes for the eight new format titles we’ll be launching there.”
