LONDON: Peter Fincham and Tim Hincks have launched Expectation, a new British indie producer covering both scripted and non-scripted programming.

Expectation launches with six departments across scripted and non-scripted programming: drama, comedy, factual entertainment, entertainment, reality and factual. BBC Worldwide has come on board as a minority investor in Expectation with a 24.9 percent shareholding and board representation.

Fincham served as director of television at ITV from 2008 to 2016 and prior to that was the controller of BBC One. He also previously was the CEO of TalkBack Thames, responsible for output such as The X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent for ITV. Hincks, meanwhile, spent 17 years with Endemol. He most recently served as the president of Endemol Shine Group and was also on the management and creative boards.

Nerys Evans joins the company as creative director for comedy, while Nick Mather and Nick Samwell-Smith are creative directors for entertainment. Evans previously was the deputy head of comedy at Channel 4. Mather was with Endemol Shine for ten years, before taking on consultancy working with Tuesday’s Child. Samwell-Smith began his career at Initial, part of Endemol Shine UK, where he spent 19 years.

Hincks said: “In Nerys, Nick and Nick we have some of the most talented program-makers in the U.K. at the moment. We’re so lucky to have them. And we have exciting announcements that we’ll be making in the near future about other creative talent—not all of whom have names that begin with ‘N.’”

Fincham continued: “The team is already growing; we’ve started talking to broadcasters and we’re developing ideas that we can’t wait to get working on. Tim and I are like a couple of kids who’ve been given bicycles for their birthday, we literally couldn’t be more thrilled.”
