Charlotte Moore Appointed as BBC One Controller

LONDON: After having served as the acting controller of BBC One since May, Charlotte Moore has now been named to the role on an official basis.

Moore has been the BBC’s commissioning editor of documentaries since 2009. In 2012, she took on the additional role of commissioning editor for Knowledge on BBC Three. Since May Moore has been in the acting controller post for BBC One, and spent the first part of the year as acting controller of BBC Daytime Television.

Danny Cohen, the director of BBC Television, said: “Charlotte has proven herself as a highly talented creative leader, with fantastic credentials as a commissioner and a reputation as a thoughtful and collaborative colleague. She has a passion for storytelling and a real understanding of audiences and BBC One’s commitment to scale, range and risk-taking. I am looking forward to her joining my new senior management team on a permanent basis and leading the channel to great future success.

Tony Hall, BBC director-general, added: “This is a very critical appointment. I was really excited by Charlotte’s ideas and vision, they have a boldness and originality that is absolutely what the channel should offer.”

Moore said: “Running BBC One is the most exciting and creative job in television and I’m honored to be taking over as the new controller. Under Danny Cohen’s leadership the flagship channel has enjoyed great success and it’s a huge privilege to be part of its future. BBC One has a unique role to play in this country and I’m looking forward to working with many talented people. I’m incredibly excited by Danny’s vision for BBC Television and what the future holds in the digital age.”
