Mongol’s Green Show Production has adapted Nippon TV’s award-winning drama Mother as a Mongolian-language series.

Ээж (Mother in Mongolian) begins streaming first on Mongolia’s VOO IPTV platform today and will air on Mongolia’s Edutainment TV (Edu TV) starting January 20.

In addition to the adaptation in Mongolia, Mother has been given local treatments in Turkey, South Korea, Ukraine, Thailand, China, France and Spain, with upcoming production in Arabic.

Ээж tells the story of a substitute teacher who realizes that one of her pupils is a victim of child abuse. Acting upon instinct, she kidnaps the student to save her from the abusive biological mother and her volatile boyfriend and flees to her own adoptive mother’s place, all while trying to escape from the police.

Sayako Aoki, head of scripted formats for global business at Nippon TV, said: “Mother is a very unique story that continues to touch the hearts of global audiences, making it a timeless scripted format. We cannot wait for the local audience in Mongolia to encounter this remarkable series, produced by Green Show Production, who had a strong aspiration from the very beginning stages to create a series that has important social relevance.”
