The BBC One comedy detective series Ludwig, starring David Mitchell (Would I Lie to You?), has begun filming.

The 6×60-minute series follows John “Ludwig” Taylor (Mitchell) when his identical twin, James, disappears off the face of the earth. Ludwig then takes over his brother’s identity in a quest to discover his whereabouts.

Anna Maxwell Martin (Motherland, Line of Duty) will also feature, along with Dipo Ola (Landscapers, We Hunt Together), Gerran Howell (Catch-22, Suspicion), Izuka Hoyle (Boiling Point, Big Boys), Dylan Hughes (Malory Towers, Maternal) and Dorothy Atkinson (Mum, The Gold).

Ludwig is a Big Talk Studios in association with That Mitchell And Webb Company for BBC One and BBC iPlayer. The series is written and created by Mark Brotherhood and directed by Robert McKillop and Jill Robertson. It is produced in association with ITV Studios, which will distribute the series internationally.

“I’m delighted to be working in a genre of television that I have loved ever since, at the age of 10, I started watching the Miss Marple adaptations, starring Joan Hickson, with my parents,” said Mitchell. “Sometimes the only thing that can bring the whole family together is murder.”
