The Israeli drama Bad Boy, showrun by Ron Leshem (Euphoria, Valley of Tears) and produced by Sipur and The North Road Company, received more nominations than any other title for this year’s Israeli Academy Awards.

The series, which completed its initial run on HOT and is headed for a global rollout on Netflix, received 14 nominations at the Israeli Academy Awards, with the winners to be awarded at a ceremony on April 2.

Inspired by a true story, the drama revolves around a star comedian who, 20 years prior, was held in a cruel juvenile detention facility, where he befriended a mysterious teenage prisoner serving time for murder. He is desperate to keep this youthful imprisonment a secret. The series is directed by Hagar Ben-Asher (The Slut, Mish’olim, Dead Women Walking). It stars Daniel Chen, Havtamo Fard and Guy Manster. Bad Boy was created by Leshem, Ben Asher, Chen, Roy Florentine, Moshe Malka, Amit Cohen and Daniel Amsel.

“This is a huge achievement for an Israeli series and the reason why Bad Boy will resonate around the world on Netflix,” said Emilio Schenker, CEO of Sipur. “This is the second time one of our shows has competed in this competition, with our previous entry, The Devil’s Confession: The Lost Eichmann Tapes, having taken home five awards, including best documentary series.”
