Production Begins on Super Channel Original Comedy

EDMONTON: Production has begun on What Would Sal Do?, an original series for Super Channel, a Canadian English-language pay-TV network.

The eight-episode series is produced by New Metric Media, in partnership with DHX Media in association with Super Channel, and will air in spring 2016. Shooting began in Sudbury, Ontario, this month, and production is expected to wrap on September 15. Dylan Taylor (Rogue, The Lizzie Borden Chronicles) stars as Sal, an underachiever who is challenged to be a good person when he discovers he’s the Second Coming of Christ. The half-hour parody series also stars Jennifer Dale (Of Unknown Origin, The Adjuster) as Maria, Sal’s mother, a virgin and devoted Catholic; Ryan McDonald (Fringe, 2012) as Sal’s best friend; and Scott Thompson (Hannibal, The Kids in the Hall) as Maria’s friend and confidant. Kaniehtiio Horn (Hemlock Grove) has a recurring role as Sal’s love interest.

Julie Di Cresce, the director of Canadian programming for Super Channel, said, “We are very excited to have production underway on What Would Sal Do? and to see this unique and hilarious series come to life with this incredible cast.”

“With amazing talent in front of and behind the camera, and a healthy dose of Catholic guilt, we’re thrilled to hit the floor on What Would Sal Do?” added Mark Montefiore, executive producer for New Metric Media. “The local parish in Sudbury offering a groupon for crew confessions once we’re done is a bonus.”

The series is produced with the participation of the Canadian Media Fund and Ontario and Federal Tax Credits.
