CMF Awards Funding to 22 Canadian Digital Media Projects

TORONTO: The Canada Media Fund (CMF) has awarded more than C$4.7 million ($3.6 million) in development and marketing support to innovative digital media projects as part of the first round of its 2016-17 Experimental Stream funding.

Fifteen Canadian companies received support totaling C$3.3 million ($2.5 million) to develop 12 games, 2 applications and a software application. Development support provides funding for the conceptualization of an eligible project and/or for the development of the creative and technical elements of an eligible project and the drafting of a product proposal for business development and financing purposes. Projects from Frima Studio, Papier Culte, Deadly Soap Studios, Couzin Films, Behaviour Interactive and Big Viking Games are among those to receive development funding in this round.

The CMF also contributed C$1.4 million ($1.1 million) in marketing support to seven interactive digital media projects, including five games, a software application and an e-book. Projects from Imaginary Games, Rival Schools Media Design, Global Mind, DEEP, Jeux Borealys, Cococucumber and 9420860 Canada were awarded marketing funding in this latest round.

The CMF has contributed more than C$69.7 million ($53.7 million) in development and marketing support to 316 interactive digital media projects since the Experimental Stream was created in 2010.
